“I did this from rapping on the stoop to stacking all my loot/ For studios where they use a bathroom as a booth/ Tracks was just a loop, no mic stand, just a mic/ In the projects, ah yes this was life”

That may be the realest shit the writer of writers ever wrote. I remember hearing this verse for the first time on a Cutmaster C tape in the fall of 2003. Those 4 bars did more to earn my attention than rapping for 6 minutes straight on the radio. Plus, there’s just something special about the combination of drums programmed at a Roni Size bpm rate and the Dipset chant. It’s like a capacity-filled arena willing it’s team to rally. One of “The Ethiopian’s” earliest appearances, but by far one of my favorites. This is the version that appeared on the first installment of Writer’s Block with an equally quotable second verse. No spoilers, but be on the lookout for a solid Blair Witch reference!
